A   NOTE    FROM    A    GHOST

A ghost has no skin in the game, no worldly stakes. She can see beyond the smallness of human desires and faults – she has earned this second sight, of course paying the heavy cost of her own life as the price. In this collection, we adopt her kaleidoscopic perspective, viewing ourselves from the outside, hearing her speak of war, of love and how to water our flowers in the garden of life through the seasons as they come and go, of pleasure and the erotic aliveness we so often try to expire within, killing ourselves before we even die.

She teaches us, if we listen, to dare to avenge her life. She was murdered, taken far too soon. Her life will never be fully recovered, the hole in our universe and galaxy will always remain agape, the symphony of our world silent where there should have been gorgeous sound.

That will never change. But what will we (must we) do with that grief, that knawing knowing absence abscess?

“It’s never (not) in vain”.

“…both at the same time, unjust and divine. Every time

one of us kills a little piece of ourselves, cuts off a limb to appease the high and mighty, bites our tongue for fear of the few and powerful, who struck blow after blow by the mighty slings and arrows of a constructed fortune, our bodies, our souls, our minds, our spirits.

Spirits. We have to remember her, our ghost, how she comes back as trickster goddess, as holy mistress of the erotic, as just a girl aching with dreams deferred.

She is as real as the day is long, as some would say. She is a ghost, and some might say that means she’s only make-believe, but ask yourself, what are we to believe if not at least that which WE make? For a moment, I entreat you to trouble your notion of reality, of what it means to love, to be alive.

Come, love, as we sing these songs and embody this ritual, we honor her, a ghost who longs for a home lying dormant within each one of us. This is no joke. This is not bullshit. We are not playing.

She is real. I am real. This is real.

Listen.
